BAP Young, Wild, and Free MV and Album Review

Yay! BAP is back, but they are still under the same label which is a little weird to me. It makes me wonder how everything was settled and what it means for their future. I don't think they would still be there if they weren't being treated well. It makes me think of what happened with Block B and how everyone was nervous for them because of all the baggage that they had as a group but BAP didn't (doesn't) have all those scandals so it makes me wonder if they had actually parted ways with their company if someone else would have picked them up. The entertainment industry, especially the Korean one it seems, is really rough.

VIXX Chained Up MV Review

Darn maknaes growing up and becoming handsome! Who said you could do this Hyuk! Go be handsome somewhere else!

VIXX is back and once again they put out a good song. I don't think that I have ever been totally let down by a VIXX. True, I didn't love Love Equation, but that was a cover so that's not terribly important.

Zico (ft Babylon) Boys and Girls MV Review

Much to my surprise I am a little obsessed with this song! When it comes to Zico's solo stuff I normally ignore it because I am not a rap person. Rap is stereotypical filled with profanity and vulgar things and I also need a melody in a song. If there is no discernible melody and there is nothing to hum along to it is probably not for me. I am not a gangster, nor do I try to be so I'll just skip away and listen to Super Junior. Thanks, but no thanks.

f(x) 4 Walls MV and Album Review

I don't know what it is about 2015, but SM has really been on their music game. I mean, I don't think it would be too hard to make an SM stan fan happy as long as their favorites aren't trapped in a box, but these videos have been so nice lately. The music has also been really good which is to be expected from SM. Maybe they are taking all of the scandals they have been dealing with and trying to cover it up with exceptional songs and videos.

BIGFLO Obliviate MV Review

And Bigflo is back! They are one of the few rookie groups that I have been listening too and I have enjoyed their two comebacks and debut. As far as sound goes, they are still a rookie group even though Jungkyun was a member of N-Train before becoming the leader of Bigflo. And speaking of moving groups I guess there is a new guy? I happened upon his Instsgram account and was really confused but I guess Bigflo stole another member from another K-pop group. Watch out world of K-pop Bigflo is out to steal your members.

Sassy Go Go First Impressions

I don't normally go for the high school dramas, I am more of a rom-com person. I'm not in high school so it can often feel corny and and deals with issues that I don't care about. It's like watching The Little Mermaid when you are older and want to smack Ariel when she says that she is "no longer a child". Does that mean I am getting old?

I will admit that this drama does have the usual cliched story of the girl with bad grades but a golden heart and her posse are butting heads with the top tier group of students in the school and she is will eventually end up with the boy that heads that group. I am really excited to see how the factor the cheer leading angle in though. It seems like such a random story line especially with  how dark episode two got. Hopefully the shenanigans that are going to have to happen with learning how to cheer lead will lighten the mood.

She Was Pretty First Impressions

I like it! More please!

I was surprised to see Hwang Jung Eum and Park Seo Jin working together so soon after Kill me, Heal Me and especially as romantic leads but they are both good actors and they are definitely showing those skills in what I have seen so far in the drama.

I have also been nicely surprised about the theme of the drama. This could easily be a simple funny drama about a guy that grew up handsome and a girl that grew up comely and the random shenanigans they they get into, but the writers are going deeper. They are showing that a person's looks does not determines the worth of a person. It's a good message and it is also something that people all over the world and maybe specifically Korea should listen to.

Super Junior Magic MV and Album Review

I'm seeing a pattern in my actions. Something comes out that I am interested in and I decide "Okay! This is my moment to start blogging again!" Then I get all pumped up and nothing comes from it. Hopefully the third time is the charm though. I am finding that recently I have started to fall into a funk and I think that it is because I don't have very many creative outlets here in Korea. I don't have a piano, I can't make dolls, and there isn't a pool that I can get to easily. I have loved living in Korea but I think that I will be glad to go back to the states when the the times comes.

All that being said, this blog I'm realizing is the easiest way to be creative that I have at the moment and even now as I write down my thoughts I am already feeling better about life. I guess that means I should start writing about things again!

VIXX LR Beautiful Liar MV and Album Review

I know that this MV is suppose to tell this beautiful story about a man that is leaving his girlfriend because of Reasons and his inner self rebelling, but I could not take this video seriously and because of that I feel like my first listen of the song is tainted. What I view has a lot of do with how I feel about a video. I have watched a MV and liked the song but when I go to buy and listen to the short clip I realize that I didn't like the song as much as I liked the song AND the video.

B1A4 Sweet Girl MV and Album Review

Yay! B1A4 is back! B1A4 is definitely in my top five favorite male K-pop groups and I don't know if I have ever been disappointed with their music since I really got into them rather than being a casual listener.

"Sweet Girl" definitely fits into the B1A4 comeback pattern of fun song/adult song/fun song. The way that this song does deviate a little from their usual serious song comebacks is that the video isn't as wacky as some of their other ones, but instead of being grey and dramatic like "Lonely" and "Baby I'm Sorry" it still has that carefree cute B1A4 feeling that so many people expect from them.

Super Junior Devil MV and Album Review

I have been taking a mental health break and even though Super Junior's song and album have been out for a week now, I don't even care, I'm going to write about it because it was awesome! On to the post!

It's Super Junior's 10th anniversary (almost)! I have only been around for the last four years of it but it has been a really good four years for me. I had to do a lot of catching up and there was a lot of history to learn, but it was totally worth it. I am a little jealous of those E.L.F.s who have been around since 2005 because they really got to see SuJu grow as a group while my time has been like a lightning round.

Spring Favorites 2015

I have not been in the writing mood lately if you couldn't tell and even if I had felt super inspired to write something I have had literally no time. It is the end of the semester over here in Korea and which means essay tests. My students write an essay at the end of each semester for my class and I have been giving essays and grading them All MONTH LONG. You know how many classes I have? 24! And each class has about 30 students each! 30! There was also some scheduling issues so my co teacher and I have been hustling this week and it's been rough, but now it's done! And next week is finals which means I don't have classes. Let the vegetating begin!

BIGBANG BANG BANG BANG MV Review

I have some mixed feelings about this song and video. Most of the feelings are good, but there is some underlying confliction.

As soon as this song started I was so on board. This was an anthem and is the closest thing to "Fantastic Baby" that we have received so far. The reason for that comparison is because, let's be honest, that song was amazing and people have kind of been waiting for "Fantastic Baby 2.0". This video also furthers the hilarity that I feel when I watch a BIGBANG video. They are a group and by the end they are all together, but the first half of their videos are often spent separately. I think that BIGBANG decides that they need to have a comeback but because they are all doing their own thing they have to start filming separately but by the end it all comes together like they have been together the whole time. I know that this probably isn't the case but it is the funny scenario that I have created in my mind.

A6P Face Off Debut MV Review

I thought I would mix it up today and talk about a newly debuted group. I hadn't even heard about them until the day of their debut but I am always willing to listen to a new group. I try to not make a snap decision on a group's debut song because a debut song isn't always a correct representation of who a group is. I mean, look at Block B and VIXX (to name some recent groups) and where they started and what they are doing now. Of course, VIXX's debut was actually enjoyable whereas Block B's debut was slightly cringe worthy. To go off on a brief tangent, it's a good thing that Stardom decided that Taeil wasn't cool, because as soon as they gave him the "nerdy/quirky" concept he became cool because he didn't look so freaking uncomfortable all the time. Tangent over.

SHINee Odd Album Review

SHINee's back and this album is dang good.

That was a solid English introduction by Key. I already have high hopes for this album and the first song Odd Eye just makes my hopes higher. All the singing and the raps are on point and blend very well which is something that SHINee has definitely refined over the years. The chorus is also beautiful with the sexy synths and floating falsettos.

Orange Marmalade First Impressions

Yeo Jin Goo makes me mad. There I said it. He makes me mad. Why you ask? Because he's super talented and has a beautiful voice and yet he's jailbate. He's a few months younger than my sister. He could literally be my younger sibling.

When I heard about this drama it sounded cute enough even though I am not the biggest vampire fan. I don't have anything against vampires, it's just that they are so hyped that I have kind of lost what little interest I had in them. You better believe that I am waiting with bated breath for Scholar Who Walks the Night to begin though. I watched Iljimae for Lee Joon Ki, very few things could be worse that that.

Warm and Cozy First Impressions

For a drama that is written by the Hong Sisters, this definitely doesn't feel like it was written by them. Thus far the drama has been very calm and (dare I say it?) warm and cozy. Not that there is anything wrong with that but the dramas that I have seen from these women are very quick out of the gate and slap stick.

But then, our heroine threw an imaginary spear at her cheating ex-boyfriend and the mayor of Jeju Island has a secret past life as an underwear model. We have hit the crazy antics wall and it matches really well with the easiness that the drama has brought thus far. This drama also doesn't have a real plot either. Like the scenery around them, thing just seem to be happening and I am perfectly content to watch it unfold. This drama is really refreshing and I like it.

Angry Mom Drama Review

Verdict: This drama is awesome and you should go watch it.

Going in to this drama I expected a lot of funny and while it was quite fun, it was also very dark and at first I was a little taken aback, but by the end I loved it. This is one of those dramas that even though it had a silly premise, it did have moments that struck close to home.

In school people are bullied and in life the people that are suppose to keep us safe are the ones that are actually putting us in danger. That is a horrible thing to say, I know, but it is unfortunately true. This dramas whole premise was about corrupt leaders and if the little man gather other little men there is a chance for change to be made. Even with that collective movement, victory is not always 100%.

Liebster Award Nomination

Since this blog is a little baby blog, one of my favorite things is when I get a comment. It means that whether on accident or on purpose, someone saw something of interest and not only that, but they took a moment out of their day to say that they liked something. It always gives me the warm fuzzies and makes me want to send out internet love to those people. Now, to make things even better there is something called the Liebster Award that helps small blogs gain more attention which I think is a lovely thought. We could all use new internet friends.

I have been nominated by the blog IKurate who compile recaps, first impressions, and reviews of different dramas. This is something I am always in need of when I am writing something about a drama and I am missing a picture that I want. Thank you recappers who are better at taking screen shots than I am! I also really like their blog lay put. It's easy use and it's pretty. What more could a person want?

BIGBANG Loser MV Review

It took me a few listens to like "Bae Bae", but as soon as "Loser" started, I knew that I was going to like it. I say this frequently, but I don't really like slow/mid tempo songs but there are a select few groups and songs that I like and BIGBANG is one of those groups. I love "Blue" and "Haru Haru" and this song definitely fits in the same category as those songs.

Again, like my "Bae Bae" post I am really interested in the video. This time though I am not confused at the events but......I don't want to say in awe........but impressed with what was portrayed though the five members because they are real things that are happening the world to real people.

Each member of BIGBANG are dealing with their own demons and in the end they are destroyed by those demons, thus becoming losers.

BIGBANG Bae Bae MV Review

I hate the word bae.

And almost three years later, we get a BIGBANG comeback. They are ready to take over too what with their MV schedule that's going to be happening. But, YG also said that 2NE1 were also going to do this one video a month thing a few years ago and we all know how that went down. It didn't.

I remembered this morning that the video came out and I watched it and I didn't love the song at first. In retrospect, I think I wasn't sure how I felt about the song because I was trying to figure out what the heck I had just watched  Now that I have listened to the song a little more I do like it. The song has a floatiness to it which is kind of fun and it adds to the weirdness of the video.

Block B - Bastarz Mini Album - Conduct Zero Album Review

This post has been sitting unfinished since the album came out and because I only have one usable hand at the moment (inflamed tendons are annoying) typing is hard. Here it finally is though! Only (hopefully) two more weeks of this one handed nonsense.

I think that a Block B subunit is something that I never knew that I wanted but I'm glad that I now have this.

Block B - Bastarz Conduct Zero MV Review

This song is my new jam. All day every day. And because I am in Korea I might go buy a hard copy because I can do things like that. That also means that I'm not going to able to buy it until the weekend because I don't really want to buy a digital copy and a hard copy. First world problems right there.

Speaking of first world problems, I recently found out that I have an inflamed tendon in my right hand so I'm typing this entire thing with only my left hand. Life has been difficult for the last week and it will continue to be difficult for about the next month. Please excuse me for a moment while I go cry.

Block B - Bastarz Conduct Zero Teaser Review

I don't usually write about teasers because there is not a lot to say, but I feel like this is a special moment and I haven't been writing much about K-pop lately. There have been some good songs but nothing that I have been dying to write about. Maybe this can be a new thing.

I like that Seven Seasons decided that April 1 was the perfect day to release this teaser.

They would do that.

Girl Who Sees Smells First Impressions

For a drama that I wasn't completely sold on, I really like it so far. I had pretty much decided that I wasn't going to watch this because it sounded so odd and the teaser trailers weren't really doing it for me either. The trailers were kind of cheap and the story synopsis sounded cheesy and weird. I still hold to both of those above statements, but now that I am seeing everything in action I can say that my first impression was wrong. I like it!

Just to get something out of the way, once again Kim So Hyun is the girl that gets smacked around and (this time) murdered. I haven't seen everything that she has ever done, but I think that everything I have seen seems to turn out bad for her or she is a nasty character. Not to say that she doesn't do it very well, but she has played some ill fated characters.

Hogu's Love Drama Review

That drama certainly wasn't what I thought it was going to be, but I sure liked it! I also liked that this drama did handle issues that are very taboo in the world and especially Korea in a very mature way. The writers and actors in this drama weren't over the top caricatures, they were real people dealing with real problems. With Misaeng before this and now the drama Angry Mom on the air, I would like to see Korea bringing these issues to the table and showing that bad things to happen and we need to accept them and change things so that our society can become better.

Hyde, Jekyll, Me Drama Review

Not going to lie, I'm glad that drama is over. I was excited to watch this drama because I like Hyun Bin and I like Han Ji Min and I was loving Kill Me Heal Me so I of course am going to love this right? Wrong. This drama was really boring and on paper it doesn't seem boring. There is a man with DID, hypnosis, kidnapping, secrets, self discovery! It was all nonsensical and boring though. What the heck?

This reminds me of what happened back in 2012 when The Master's Sun and Who Are You? both came out. The concept was similar but one drama was way better than the other. In the ghostly case, the former is better than the later.

Angry Mom First Impressions

Well, that was a lot darker than I anticipated.

When I heard the premise of the drama I was really interested: Mom pretends to be a high schooler to find out who is bullying her daughter. I assumed that the drama could be serious at some points, because bullying is serious, but I think in my mind I was thinking more Boys Over Flowers over the top story telling. You can't really blame me though. This is about a mom pretending to be a high schooler! How serious could it be?

How wrong I was.

Winter Favorites 2015

Spring is starting to spring in Korea and it's about time too! It has been so cold for so long and even though I did enjoy wearing my winter jacket I was seriously getting tired of having to wear it everywhere. It's still not warm enough to go completely sans jacket, but I don't have to layer to the point where "I can't put my arms down". Gold star for whoever gets that reference. For everyone else, go watch this. Merry Christmas.

F.T.Island Pray MV Review

This song is freaking amazing. Like, dang son. I'm completely obsessed with this song. I actually forgot that it had come out this weekend and here it is Wednesday and I am just hearing it. Shame on me. In my defense I am not a Primadonna in any way shape or form. I do have some of their singles in my iTunes and I like the dramas that Hongki has done, but I don't know anything about the group. F.T.Island and CNBlue are in the same boat for me. They are groups that I have often wanted to look into and just never have.

When I do think of F.T.Island though I think of pop rock like "I Wish", "I Hope", and power ballad kind of stuff like "Severely". All are very good songs but none of them have the heavy strictly rock feel that is in this song. As soon as the song started I knew that it was going to be good and if I hadn't been in the office with two other teachers I might have let out a might "YAS!" or "Yawp" for the English nerds out there.

Kill Me Heal Me Drama Review

And another great drama comes to a close. It wasn't without a few faults, but those can be overlooked because the good far outweighs the small things I had issues with. I mean dang, Ji Sung alone is enough reason to watch this drama. He was absolutely phenomenal in not only playing his role as Cha Do Hyun but six other people as well of all ages, interests, and even gender.

The only thing that I knew about Ji Sung going into this drama was that he was married to Lee Bo Young who I quite like. Now seeing him in action, if their future children have even a fraction of their parents acting chops, they are going to be unstoppable.

Heart to Heart Drama Review

For a drama that I wasn't totally on board with at the beginning, I absolutely loved in by the end. The story was lovely, the characters were well written and the ending left me in a happy place without the writer putting a big pink bow and sparkles on it. As nice as bows and sparkles are sometimes, it's not true to life and some realism is dramas is always appreciated.

I was initially unsure about the drama because of the pacing of the first two episodes. It seems a little slow and weird and the two main characters weren't very likable. Ko Yi Seok was pompous and annoying and Cha Hong Do was an unbelievably useless human being. I can deal with one annoying character, but I don't want to have to deal with two. Looking back now, it was because these two characters were flawed that they were so good. They had so much growing room, and grow they did.

Donghae and Eunhyuk The Beat Goes On Album Review

This album starts with the song it's named for "The Beat Goes On" and there are quite a few beats going on in this song. This is like something that SM would have released last year or the year before or maybe even a reject f(x) song. This song is all over the place and sometimes Frankenstein songs can be fun but this song isn't so much fun as it is just generally confusing. There are some good moments, but collectively, it's just a hot mess.

But, then, glory hallelujah we get to "Growing Pains" which I am obsessed with. This is a beautiful song and I'm going to listen to this and just pretend that first song never happened.  I love the guitar and the piano and the transition from the simpler versus to the large sound of the chorus. I also really liked Eunhyuk's rap. Yes to everything here.

Donghae and Eunhyuk Growing Pains MV Review

I am pretty sure that there are two Donghae and Eunhyuks. There are the crazy people who promote in Japan and wear bright suits and sing about motorcycles and wear questionable costumes and then there are the Donghae and Eunhyuk who release more relaxed and adult songs and videos in Korea. I mean seriously they go from this

Unkind Women - First Impressions

Finally this drama has been subbed! Like, dang, I have been waiting for a week and then the new school year also started this week so I haven't had any time to do anything, but now I do! The time has come to catch up on all the things that have been on the blog back burner! Let's do this.

I think that it is well known that I have a great love for Song Jae Rim. I will admit that he hasn't been in any phenomenal dramas, but you can tell that he is better than the dramas that he is in. Let's hope that this drama is the really good one that will lead to a whole chain of really good dramas.

VIXX Boys' Record Mini Album Review

I have learned since listening to this mini album that I am probably the only one who is totally amazed by the two songs because they aren't really "new" songs. I guess they were performed at the Hex Sign concert and since I have kind of gotten out of my concert video/variety show/candid stuff phase I didn't hear about it. I'm not too sad about that though because I got to hear the song "Memory" for the first time and I am OBSESSED with it. Like dang, it has been on repeat on Youtube since yesterday because it wasn't on iTunes when I checked, but now it is and I definitely need that song in my life.

Rainbow Innocent Album Review

I've never actually listened to a Rainbow album before so I am going into this completely blind, or deaf rather. I have nothing to compare this album to other than the singles that they have put out over the years and a single doesn't always reflect the album as a whole.

Before we begin, as I am looking at the album cover I am once again annoyed at the chance that was lost in the "Black Swan" video. It could have been so cool and creepy and it wasn't! Dang it!

VIXX Love Equation MV Review

This is definitely not a VIXX that we have seen in a while but it is still majorly cute if maybe a little cringe inducing, but it's definitely a video that makes you smile. After listening to the inspiration song, you know that this video will probably have a cute concept, but it's another thing entirely to see it. It's also videos like this that makes me wonder if Leo ever questions his life choices. He wasn't as awkward as I thought he would be though and Ken was obviously in his element the whole time this was filmed.

In a lot of the shots of this video I was also glad to see that VIXX looked like they were legitimately having fun. There is definitely a different between a fake smile and a real smile and there was a lot of real smiles happening in this video and that makes my heart happy. They K-pop industry is a scary place and it is good to see that there is some happiness up in there occasionally.

Rainbow Black Swan MV Review

Second MV review of the year and it's a girl group! Who saw that coming? Not me that's for sure. I had forgotten that Rainbow was making a comeback so I was getting ready to put my VIXX hat on and while I haven't taken that hat off, that Rainbow hat is sitting on top at the moment.

I can't believe that it's almost March and I have hardly written anything yet, but none of the music that has been released thus far has appealed to me. I had high hopes for Amber's solo debut, but to be perfectly honest I didn't love "Shake That Brass". It wasn't bad, but it didn't grab my attention the way that I had hoped. "Beautiful" on the other hand was, well, beautiful. I much preferred that song to the former.

Hogu's Love First Impressions

Choi Woo Shik may be one of the cutest people ever, End of story, end of post, let's go home.

But seriously, I was pretty excited when I heard about this drama because of the before mentioned Choi Woo Shik, it's a tvN romcom, and the writer of this drama also wrote Flower Boy Ramyun Shop which is one of my top dramas. I'm hoping that all these things can make this drama as wonderful as I hope that it will be.

Healer Drama Review

Yes, yes, yes. A million times yes and then some. This drama was perfect from the story, to the characters, to the ending. This ending gave me what I wanted from City Hunter and was denied. Don't get me wrong, that drama was fantastic, but I flipped a small table when the characters kind of looked at each other and then walked away dramatically. Why do writer do things like that?

First off, I almost didn't watch this drama. I had heard about it, but didn't take the time to look into it. It wasn't until I read a recap on Dramabeans that I realized the mistake that I was making and I then spent the next two days marathoning my missed episodes and it was a two days well spent.

Pinocchio Drama Review

That was lovely. I have two little qualms about the last episode, but that was absolutely lovely. The story was good, the characters were all well written, and Park Shin Hye's didn't look like a scared fish when she kissed Lee Jong Suk. That last point alone is reason to watch this drama I think.

When I first heard about this drama I thought that it sounded a lot like I Hear Your Voice and lo and behold, these two dramas have the same writer and that is definitely evident from the story and I don't hate that. It was another good story and I also wonder what it would have been like if Lee Jong Suk wasn't the lead which made it seem even more similar. Again, I don't hate that. This wasn't anything new, but why fix something when it isn't broken? Don't use it until it breaks though because then everyone will hate it and that would be sad.

Kill Me, Heal me - First Impressions

Aside from the fact that the beginning of this drama made me super uncomfortable, I like it so far. I don't think that I could have watched this drama if we were going to be in America for an extended period of time with the way things were going. I didn't really enjoy the beginning of Heirs either but I had an odd affection for Jay the Surfer Dude which made all the awkward LA stereotypes bearable. They did compliment/make fun of Mormons though and that is something that I never thought I would ever see in a K-drama. Maybe it's because they weren't in Korea at the time but New York.

Heart to Heart - First Impressions

I feel like all is lost for me with this drama because I am firmly on the side of the second male lead. Ever since seeing Lee Jae Yoon in Golden Rainbow I've been a little in love with him even though I haven't seen him in anything else since other than Yoo Seung Woo's video "Hesitating Lips". I liked his character in that drama and he is also super handsome and he isn't the usual flower boy handsome either, he is a big guy with a very square jaw. He's also Korean-Canadian so maybe that means he also speaks English. Obviously we are perfect for each other.

What interested me most about this drama was the story line: our heroine Cha Hong Do (Choi Gang Hee) has a severe social phobia and blushes very easily and the only way she can function properly is by dressing up as an old woman. Then we have our psychiatrist Ko Yi Sok (Chun Jung Myung) who has some sort of special issue all his own that hasn't really been identified yet.

Jonghyun The First Mini Album 'BASE' Review

I'm going to be honest and say that "Deja-Boo" bothers me. I know that in Korean it would be romanized as 'boo' but that doesn't mean that that is the correct way that it is spelled. I just needed to get that off my chest, now we can move on to the actual review.

I am going to start this in the same way that I started the music video review

Dang.

Is album is totally what I expected from Jonghyun, except maybe I thought there would be something a little more up beat but that could just be my inner SHINee fan talking. It probably is. Jonghyun is SHINee but SHINee is not Jonghyun and that can be said for every single member.

Film Review: "Miss Granny" Becomes "20 Once Again"

Hey all! I got to write another review for Soompi! I think that that is a pretty solid way to start the year don't you? It's been a while since I wrote the review for "Miss Granny" and I was super excited to do it again. It makes me feel cooler than I actually am. I'm working on an album review for Jonghyun's mini album so until then!

Miss Granny” is back except this time she is Chinese! This film did extremely well in South Korea, selling about 8.65 million tickets, so of course other people are going to want to jump on that success as well. And seriously, what is not to like about this movie? There is reverse aging, music, and cute idol boys. The idol boy this time is former EXO member Luhan who takes the roll of the grandson previously played by B1A4‘s Jinyoung.

Jonghyun Crazy (Guilty Pleasure) MV Review

I have two things to say:

1) Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang
2) The uncloseable adds are back! Curse you SM! I don't care about your weird virtual whatever that is!

According to the Youtube comments section, there seems to be a lot of grumpy people, not that I am surprised at all. Grumpy people seem to run rampant in the K-pop world. I guess people didn't like this song as much as they thought they would and to those people I say, are you kidding me? I think the song choice is kind of obvious because Jonghyun is a R&B kind of guy. What a person does in a group is not always reflective of what they want to do as an individual. Duh.

Favorite K-pop of the Year - Solos and Sub Units 2014

I always like to put something in front of the actual post, but I am seriously drawing a blank here. I could say something corny about soloists being brave and unique to be their own person instead of hanging out in a group, but I am not really feeling that right now. I guess the only thing that I can think of is that the artists in this list are all over the place. There's folk pop, K-pop, a fake group, and some in between things. So after that awkward intro, on to the post!

Favorite K-pop of the Year - Comebacks 2014

I liked a lot of comebacks this year. I think there were more than last year and that caused me problems in the beginning drafts. The post was too long, I ran out of label space, and the boys were crushing the girls because I generally like guy groups more than girl groups. In the end, the way that I chose which comeback to talk about is which groups do I really care about. There are comebacks I like from groups that I don't really listen to, so they were the first so go. So that means that TVXQ, Boyfriend, and god were out. Sorry guys. I didn't really want to, but I nixed U-KISS and CN Blue too. I loved those songs and I'm more into these groups then the before three, but I still am not as big of a fan of them as I am of other groups.

It was at this point that I felt comfortable with my picks

Favorite K-Pop of the Year - Debuts 2014

There have been some good debuts this year. I think there were also less debuts than there were last year which is good because man there were a lot of debuts last year and a lot of them weren't that great. Just because you can pump out a group doesn't mean that you should! I was surprised with the amount of groups that I was curious about from their debut song this year. The songs on this list are all over the board as these lists I put together usually are. There is some boy band magic, a little jazz, and a little hip hop sprinkled in for good measure. There is something for everything.

Most of these groups have also had their comeback which I am thankful for. It always makes me sad when my interest is piqued by a group only for them to never see the light of day again. And as usual, whenever I say things about people disappearing forever, I am always brought back to my perpetual sadness brought on by Nevermind. It will be two years this month since their debut song and because nothing official was ever released, I have that crazy person in the back of my mind that says it could happen.
