She Was Pretty First Impressions

I like it! More please!

I was surprised to see Hwang Jung Eum and Park Seo Jin working together so soon after Kill me, Heal Me and especially as romantic leads but they are both good actors and they are definitely showing those skills in what I have seen so far in the drama.

I have also been nicely surprised about the theme of the drama. This could easily be a simple funny drama about a guy that grew up handsome and a girl that grew up comely and the random shenanigans they they get into, but the writers are going deeper. They are showing that a person's looks does not determines the worth of a person. It's a good message and it is also something that people all over the world and maybe specifically Korea should listen to.

Orange Marmalade First Impressions

Yeo Jin Goo makes me mad. There I said it. He makes me mad. Why you ask? Because he's super talented and has a beautiful voice and yet he's jailbate. He's a few months younger than my sister. He could literally be my younger sibling.

When I heard about this drama it sounded cute enough even though I am not the biggest vampire fan. I don't have anything against vampires, it's just that they are so hyped that I have kind of lost what little interest I had in them. You better believe that I am waiting with bated breath for Scholar Who Walks the Night to begin though. I watched Iljimae for Lee Joon Ki, very few things could be worse that that.

Warm and Cozy First Impressions

For a drama that is written by the Hong Sisters, this definitely doesn't feel like it was written by them. Thus far the drama has been very calm and (dare I say it?) warm and cozy. Not that there is anything wrong with that but the dramas that I have seen from these women are very quick out of the gate and slap stick.

But then, our heroine threw an imaginary spear at her cheating ex-boyfriend and the mayor of Jeju Island has a secret past life as an underwear model. We have hit the crazy antics wall and it matches really well with the easiness that the drama has brought thus far. This drama also doesn't have a real plot either. Like the scenery around them, thing just seem to be happening and I am perfectly content to watch it unfold. This drama is really refreshing and I like it.

Angry Mom Drama Review

Verdict: This drama is awesome and you should go watch it.

Going in to this drama I expected a lot of funny and while it was quite fun, it was also very dark and at first I was a little taken aback, but by the end I loved it. This is one of those dramas that even though it had a silly premise, it did have moments that struck close to home.

In school people are bullied and in life the people that are suppose to keep us safe are the ones that are actually putting us in danger. That is a horrible thing to say, I know, but it is unfortunately true. This dramas whole premise was about corrupt leaders and if the little man gather other little men there is a chance for change to be made. Even with that collective movement, victory is not always 100%.

Girl Who Sees Smells First Impressions

For a drama that I wasn't completely sold on, I really like it so far. I had pretty much decided that I wasn't going to watch this because it sounded so odd and the teaser trailers weren't really doing it for me either. The trailers were kind of cheap and the story synopsis sounded cheesy and weird. I still hold to both of those above statements, but now that I am seeing everything in action I can say that my first impression was wrong. I like it!

Just to get something out of the way, once again Kim So Hyun is the girl that gets smacked around and (this time) murdered. I haven't seen everything that she has ever done, but I think that everything I have seen seems to turn out bad for her or she is a nasty character. Not to say that she doesn't do it very well, but she has played some ill fated characters.

Hogu's Love Drama Review

That drama certainly wasn't what I thought it was going to be, but I sure liked it! I also liked that this drama did handle issues that are very taboo in the world and especially Korea in a very mature way. The writers and actors in this drama weren't over the top caricatures, they were real people dealing with real problems. With Misaeng before this and now the drama Angry Mom on the air, I would like to see Korea bringing these issues to the table and showing that bad things to happen and we need to accept them and change things so that our society can become better.

Hyde, Jekyll, Me Drama Review

Not going to lie, I'm glad that drama is over. I was excited to watch this drama because I like Hyun Bin and I like Han Ji Min and I was loving Kill Me Heal Me so I of course am going to love this right? Wrong. This drama was really boring and on paper it doesn't seem boring. There is a man with DID, hypnosis, kidnapping, secrets, self discovery! It was all nonsensical and boring though. What the heck?

This reminds me of what happened back in 2012 when The Master's Sun and Who Are You? both came out. The concept was similar but one drama was way better than the other. In the ghostly case, the former is better than the later.

Angry Mom First Impressions

Well, that was a lot darker than I anticipated.

When I heard the premise of the drama I was really interested: Mom pretends to be a high schooler to find out who is bullying her daughter. I assumed that the drama could be serious at some points, because bullying is serious, but I think in my mind I was thinking more Boys Over Flowers over the top story telling. You can't really blame me though. This is about a mom pretending to be a high schooler! How serious could it be?

How wrong I was.

Kill Me Heal Me Drama Review

And another great drama comes to a close. It wasn't without a few faults, but those can be overlooked because the good far outweighs the small things I had issues with. I mean dang, Ji Sung alone is enough reason to watch this drama. He was absolutely phenomenal in not only playing his role as Cha Do Hyun but six other people as well of all ages, interests, and even gender.

The only thing that I knew about Ji Sung going into this drama was that he was married to Lee Bo Young who I quite like. Now seeing him in action, if their future children have even a fraction of their parents acting chops, they are going to be unstoppable.

Heart to Heart Drama Review

For a drama that I wasn't totally on board with at the beginning, I absolutely loved in by the end. The story was lovely, the characters were well written and the ending left me in a happy place without the writer putting a big pink bow and sparkles on it. As nice as bows and sparkles are sometimes, it's not true to life and some realism is dramas is always appreciated.

I was initially unsure about the drama because of the pacing of the first two episodes. It seems a little slow and weird and the two main characters weren't very likable. Ko Yi Seok was pompous and annoying and Cha Hong Do was an unbelievably useless human being. I can deal with one annoying character, but I don't want to have to deal with two. Looking back now, it was because these two characters were flawed that they were so good. They had so much growing room, and grow they did.

Unkind Women - First Impressions

Finally this drama has been subbed! Like, dang, I have been waiting for a week and then the new school year also started this week so I haven't had any time to do anything, but now I do! The time has come to catch up on all the things that have been on the blog back burner! Let's do this.

I think that it is well known that I have a great love for Song Jae Rim. I will admit that he hasn't been in any phenomenal dramas, but you can tell that he is better than the dramas that he is in. Let's hope that this drama is the really good one that will lead to a whole chain of really good dramas.

Hogu's Love First Impressions

Choi Woo Shik may be one of the cutest people ever, End of story, end of post, let's go home.

But seriously, I was pretty excited when I heard about this drama because of the before mentioned Choi Woo Shik, it's a tvN romcom, and the writer of this drama also wrote Flower Boy Ramyun Shop which is one of my top dramas. I'm hoping that all these things can make this drama as wonderful as I hope that it will be.

Healer Drama Review

Yes, yes, yes. A million times yes and then some. This drama was perfect from the story, to the characters, to the ending. This ending gave me what I wanted from City Hunter and was denied. Don't get me wrong, that drama was fantastic, but I flipped a small table when the characters kind of looked at each other and then walked away dramatically. Why do writer do things like that?

First off, I almost didn't watch this drama. I had heard about it, but didn't take the time to look into it. It wasn't until I read a recap on Dramabeans that I realized the mistake that I was making and I then spent the next two days marathoning my missed episodes and it was a two days well spent.

Pinocchio Drama Review

That was lovely. I have two little qualms about the last episode, but that was absolutely lovely. The story was good, the characters were all well written, and Park Shin Hye's didn't look like a scared fish when she kissed Lee Jong Suk. That last point alone is reason to watch this drama I think.

When I first heard about this drama I thought that it sounded a lot like I Hear Your Voice and lo and behold, these two dramas have the same writer and that is definitely evident from the story and I don't hate that. It was another good story and I also wonder what it would have been like if Lee Jong Suk wasn't the lead which made it seem even more similar. Again, I don't hate that. This wasn't anything new, but why fix something when it isn't broken? Don't use it until it breaks though because then everyone will hate it and that would be sad.

Kill Me, Heal me - First Impressions

Aside from the fact that the beginning of this drama made me super uncomfortable, I like it so far. I don't think that I could have watched this drama if we were going to be in America for an extended period of time with the way things were going. I didn't really enjoy the beginning of Heirs either but I had an odd affection for Jay the Surfer Dude which made all the awkward LA stereotypes bearable. They did compliment/make fun of Mormons though and that is something that I never thought I would ever see in a K-drama. Maybe it's because they weren't in Korea at the time but New York.

Heart to Heart - First Impressions

I feel like all is lost for me with this drama because I am firmly on the side of the second male lead. Ever since seeing Lee Jae Yoon in Golden Rainbow I've been a little in love with him even though I haven't seen him in anything else since other than Yoo Seung Woo's video "Hesitating Lips". I liked his character in that drama and he is also super handsome and he isn't the usual flower boy handsome either, he is a big guy with a very square jaw. He's also Korean-Canadian so maybe that means he also speaks English. Obviously we are perfect for each other.

What interested me most about this drama was the story line: our heroine Cha Hong Do (Choi Gang Hee) has a severe social phobia and blushes very easily and the only way she can function properly is by dressing up as an old woman. Then we have our psychiatrist Ko Yi Sok (Chun Jung Myung) who has some sort of special issue all his own that hasn't really been identified yet.

Film Review: "Miss Granny" Becomes "20 Once Again"

Hey all! I got to write another review for Soompi! I think that that is a pretty solid way to start the year don't you? It's been a while since I wrote the review for "Miss Granny" and I was super excited to do it again. It makes me feel cooler than I actually am. I'm working on an album review for Jonghyun's mini album so until then!

Miss Granny” is back except this time she is Chinese! This film did extremely well in South Korea, selling about 8.65 million tickets, so of course other people are going to want to jump on that success as well. And seriously, what is not to like about this movie? There is reverse aging, music, and cute idol boys. The idol boy this time is former EXO member Luhan who takes the roll of the grandson previously played by B1A4‘s Jinyoung.

Modern Farmer Drama Review

I love this show. I don't know what else to say. It was cute and not over complicated but it made you feel all sorts of emotions and by the end, you cared about every single character. There was at least one hole in the plot by the end, but I can forgive that because of everything else that happened.

Secret Door Drama Review

Hey, guess what? Politics. And you know what else? Politics. Then, just in case you were unsure about my first two points: politics. One more time for good measure: politics.

But then, the drama ended and it was an amazing ending. This is probably one of the best endings that I have seen in a drama in a while. It made me forget how bored I had been with the constant barrage of political intrigue and I even shed a tear or two at the beauty of it all. Then the final shot/line of the drama was the cherry on top of that magical ending.

The Three Musketeers Drama Review

I'm a little late to this drama but that allowed me to fly though it which is always fun. It was especially good right now because the students are taking finals which means I haven't had class for the last two weeks. I am crazy bored right now.

I didn't realize until I stared watching this drama, but I am watching another drama that takes place at the same time. The Three Musketeers is set in the period of King Injo and the second Manchu evasion. This same topic is also covered by lasts years sageuk Cruel Palace. As I was drafting this post it was so hard for me to not just write a big compare and contrast essay about the two dramas because they have a lot of the same characters and now that I have finished The Three Musketeers I am also starting to wonder if they will cover a similar story as well.
