Mamamoo Piano Man MV Review

Did I not just say that I wanted more jazz in my life? I think I did. Thank you Mamamoo for filling my need for for jazzy swing in my K-pop. I now have the desire for a Mamamoo/SPICA collaboration project but I'm not sure if the world is ready for the magic that would happen if they were to do that though. They could probably destroy a small building with their voices.

I just had a though, can Mamamoo sing the Mulin Rouge version of "Lady Marmalade"? Not anyone can sing that song and I think that these girls could do it.

Back to this song and their vocals, I hope these girls are around for a while and continue doing this style of music. I rarely listen to girl groups because they are always too cute or too sexy for me. I find it obnoxious and I can never say what I want until I see it and this is an example of that. I may not know what I want from girl groups, but this is good. Another!

These girls also have good consistency in their songs and videos. The videos are interesting and relevant to the song, but they don't take away from the vocals and their sound has also remained very consistent. If there is one thing that I look for when I and considering getting into a new group it is consistency. I like to know what I am getting into and not be left wondering what they heck happened to the group that I was listening to from debut. I'm not saying don't change, but there is a different between musical growth and your agency promoting you you as a "bad boy" and then having a comeback with aegyo. I don't know who you are anymore!

Something else that I really like about this song is the build up to the chorus. Then the chorus itself was also very catchy. It is one of those perfect K-pop choruses because everyone can say piano man and the build up is just "bum bum bum". I just basically love everything about this song.

I would like to now say something about Bumkey and Mamamoo, but he's married now so I can't. The reason being is because he sang with them in their debut song and now they filmed this video in the same place as Troy did for "Green Light" with a super similar concept and sound. Both groups also have four people!

But Bumkey is married so I'm just going to let all this slide. I would also like to apologize for my incessant use of pop culture references today. It just happened and there was nothing I could do to stop it.

While we're on the topic of cameos, who is Mamamoo and why do they always have so many people in their videos? Seriously! Especially their debut song! I didn't write about that one, but dang! They are talented, but they are still rookies and they had some names in that video. I also though it was rather ironic that K.Will was the photographer in their debut video. Even when he is in a music video he his still behind a camera.

As for the cameo in this video, I'm glad that Gongchan is doing something because he seems to be the least promoted member of B1A4 and we all know that I love B1A4. Baro and Jinyoung, especially Baro, are making their names known in acting; those two and CNU write and produce music; Sandeul has done a lot of Immortal Song appearances; and then there is Gongchan. Not that I don't love Gongchan, but his resume is not as full as the rest of the members.

Even though all he did in this video was look smooth and pretend to play the piano (or maybe really play the piano?) I was glad to see him. I hope that he gets a little more recognition in the future.

So, in case you couldn't tell, I really like this song. A lot. And if you don't, what is wrong with you! Go have this song a listen and be impressed with their strong vocals and a cohesive music video. Those two things don't always go hand in hand. They should have you vote just for that!

  1. I love this song too! Mamamoo may become my new favourite girl group, I'm not a huge fan of girl groups too (except 2NE1) cos their concepts are all the same, either cutesy/girly/sexy. 2NE1 and Mamamoo are those one of those rare few that are different and stand out.

  2. And if you're wondering if Gongchan was really playing the piano, the girls said in an interview that Gongchan didn't seem to be able to play the piano very well so he listened to their song a lot and practiced the timing. So, in other words, he's not playing the actual notes of the song, he's just playing according to the beat of the music so it looks realistic
