Sassy Go Go First Impressions
I don't normally go for the high school dramas, I am more of a rom-com person. I'm not in high school so it can often feel corny and and deals with issues that I don't care about. It's like watching The Little Mermaid when you are older and want to smack Ariel when she says that she is "no longer a child". Does that mean I am getting old?
I will admit that this drama does have the usual cliched story of the girl with bad grades but a golden heart and her posse are butting heads with the top tier group of students in the school and she is will eventually end up with the boy that heads that group. I am really excited to see how the factor the cheer leading angle in though. It seems like such a random story line especially with how dark episode two got. Hopefully the shenanigans that are going to have to happen with learning how to cheer lead will lighten the mood.

She Was Pretty First Impressions
I was surprised to see Hwang Jung Eum and Park Seo Jin working together so soon after Kill me, Heal Me and especially as romantic leads but they are both good actors and they are definitely showing those skills in what I have seen so far in the drama.
I have also been nicely surprised about the theme of the drama. This could easily be a simple funny drama about a guy that grew up handsome and a girl that grew up comely and the random shenanigans they they get into, but the writers are going deeper. They are showing that a person's looks does not determines the worth of a person. It's a good message and it is also something that people all over the world and maybe specifically Korea should listen to.

Orange Marmalade First Impressions
Yeo Jin Goo makes me mad. There I said it. He makes me mad. Why you ask? Because he's super talented and has a beautiful voice and yet he's jailbate. He's a few months younger than my sister. He could literally be my younger sibling.
When I heard about this drama it sounded cute enough even though I am not the biggest vampire fan. I don't have anything against vampires, it's just that they are so hyped that I have kind of lost what little interest I had in them. You better believe that I am waiting with bated breath for Scholar Who Walks the Night to begin though. I watched Iljimae for Lee Joon Ki, very few things could be worse that that.

Warm and Cozy First Impressions
For a drama that is written by the Hong Sisters, this definitely doesn't feel like it was written by them. Thus far the drama has been very calm and (dare I say it?) warm and cozy. Not that there is anything wrong with that but the dramas that I have seen from these women are very quick out of the gate and slap stick.
But then, our heroine threw an imaginary spear at her cheating ex-boyfriend and the mayor of Jeju Island has a secret past life as an underwear model. We have hit the crazy antics wall and it matches really well with the easiness that the drama has brought thus far. This drama also doesn't have a real plot either. Like the scenery around them, thing just seem to be happening and I am perfectly content to watch it unfold. This drama is really refreshing and I like it.

Girl Who Sees Smells First Impressions
For a drama that I wasn't completely sold on, I really like it so far. I had pretty much decided that I wasn't going to watch this because it sounded so odd and the teaser trailers weren't really doing it for me either. The trailers were kind of cheap and the story synopsis sounded cheesy and weird. I still hold to both of those above statements, but now that I am seeing everything in action I can say that my first impression was wrong. I like it!
Just to get something out of the way, once again Kim So Hyun is the girl that gets smacked around and (this time) murdered. I haven't seen everything that she has ever done, but I think that everything I have seen seems to turn out bad for her or she is a nasty character. Not to say that she doesn't do it very well, but she has played some ill fated characters.

Angry Mom First Impressions
Well, that was a lot darker than I anticipated.
When I heard the premise of the drama I was really interested: Mom pretends to be a high schooler to find out who is bullying her daughter. I assumed that the drama could be serious at some points, because bullying is serious, but I think in my mind I was thinking more Boys Over Flowers over the top story telling. You can't really blame me though. This is about a mom pretending to be a high schooler! How serious could it be?
How wrong I was.

Unkind Women - First Impressions
Finally this drama has been subbed! Like, dang, I have been waiting for a week and then the new school year also started this week so I haven't had any time to do anything, but now I do! The time has come to catch up on all the things that have been on the blog back burner! Let's do this.
I think that it is well known that I have a great love for Song Jae Rim. I will admit that he hasn't been in any phenomenal dramas, but you can tell that he is better than the dramas that he is in. Let's hope that this drama is the really good one that will lead to a whole chain of really good dramas.

Hogu's Love First Impressions
But seriously, I was pretty excited when I heard about this drama because of the before mentioned Choi Woo Shik, it's a tvN romcom, and the writer of this drama also wrote Flower Boy Ramyun Shop which is one of my top dramas. I'm hoping that all these things can make this drama as wonderful as I hope that it will be.

Kill Me, Heal me - First Impressions
Aside from the fact that the beginning of this drama made me
super uncomfortable, I like it so far. I don't think that I could have watched
this drama if we were going to be in America for an extended period of time
with the way things were going. I didn't really enjoy the beginning of Heirs either
but I had an odd affection for Jay the Surfer Dude which made all the awkward
LA stereotypes bearable. They did compliment/make fun of Mormons though and
that is something that I never thought I would ever see in a K-drama. Maybe
it's because they weren't in Korea at the time but New York.

The King's Face First Impressions
My newest sageuk. I have been on a big history kick lately with watching Secret Door and I would like some history books but that means that I would actually need to find one and then I would have to transport it back to the states when finally I go back. I think that I might just suck it up though because I also miss reading things. I miss my books! Someday, I will be reunited with them!
After doing a little reading about Prince Gwanghae, our main character, I have found that he was the king before King Injo who is the king in the drama Cruel Palace: War of the Flowers. I have recently been getting back in to watching that drama and maybe this will help me finish the last twenty episodes. I don't know where this drama will end, but it will give me more background information about the slight uselessness that was King Injo. From my reading, again, Gwanghae may have been dethroned, but he at least did good things. Injo took over the throne and just threw the country into war and because of that, ruined the economy.

Pinocchio First Impressions
I'm a little behind in writing about this drama, I've been a little busy at work. So many essays, so little time. Especially when reading these essays is sometimes like defining hyrogliphics; bad hand writing plus bad English equals difficult reading.
I have been waiting for this drama to begin and I do not feel disappointed from what I have been presented with thus far. To be perfectly honest, it actually reminds me of I Hear Your Voice in some ways. It is the same writer/director team though so, I shouldn't be too surprised. You have our lead, Dal Po played by Lee Jong Suk (the most obvious connection) who has a traumatic past that connects him with our female lead. He can also read the female lead's mind in this drama too! In Ha played by Park Shin Hye can't lie so Dal Po always knows what she is thinking. Then, because of his past and the distrust that it caused him, he puts himself right in the center of the people that threw his life into chaos in the first place.

Liar Game - First Impressions
In a word: obsessed. The first two episodes of this drama were amazing and I need the next episode now. I wasn't even going to watch this, but then I read the Drama Beans recap and I knew that it had to happen.
I knew even less about Liar Game than I did about Modern Farmer but a little research told me that this was originally a very popular Japanese manga that has a live TV adaptation, a sequel, and two live action movies. I take that people really like this story then. That is all I looked into though. I don't want to know what happens because that could ruin this experience. When I watched To the Beautiful You, I was a little grumpy about the drama because the manga Hana Kimi is one of my favorite mangas and I didn't think the adaptation was that great. Maybe after the drama is done I will read the Liar Game manga. We'll see.

Modern Farmer - First Impressions
I think that it is pretty safe to say that this is my new drama crack. At the end of the second episode I was literally rolling on the floor laughing. That is mainly because in my tiny officetel I choose to do all my computering while laying or sitting on the floor, but that's besides the point. This show is funny.

Boarding House #24 - First Impressions
I have been waiting for this to begin! I have never watched a sitcom before, it breaks up all the sageuks that I am watching, and it has Ken and High Top in it, what more could I want right now?
After the initial joy of hearing that two groups that I liked had people in this sitcom, I was then fascinated about the drama itself. It sounds easy enough: six strangers in their mid-twenties come to live together in a boarding house. The trailer and the poster are strangely ominous though, like they are all coming to this house and becoming trapped and so far, that is the vibe that I am getting.
Secret Door - First Impressions
I'm going to be straight with you all. I was on Allkpop and there was an article about this drama and the reason that I clicked on it was because it said that Block B sang the first OST for it. I am not ashamed of that. After watching the teaser though it was a good example of come for the music and stay for the actors. I couldn't stay for the story though because I had no idea what was happening in the trailer.
After some further investigation, I decided I should do some researching on the history of it and I have found that the subject matter of the drama is incredibly interesting! This drama focuses on the tragic story of Crown Prince Sado played by Lee Je Hoon. In the drama though he goes by the name Lee Sun because the name Sado was posthumously given to him. I also found out that Sado mean Prince of Mournful Thoughts. So after all of that, I guess I should get my tissues ready?

It's Okay, That's Love - First Impressions
I would have rather posted this last week because then I could have written about Night Watchman this week, but last week I was in Japan, and that was far more important. Sorry, not sorry. I have been really excited to watch this drama because Gong Hyo Jin is my favorite actress after Yoon Eun Hye. Lee Kwang Soo is also in this drama and he is also a favorite of mine. Then, to a lesser extent EXO's D.O is in this drama as well. Other than the fact that D.O is adorable, I didn't really care about him. He's good in EXO, but this is his acting debut so we have yet to see what he is made of.
This is also another drama that I am starting late, but not as late as Flower Grandpas, this drama just aired it's sixth episode, so I am totally caught up. I hate it when all the actors and actresses that I like all do things that sound good at the same time. It also doesn't help that I don't always want to watch dramas after being surrounded by all things Korean all day long.

First Impressions: Flower Grandpa Investigation Unit
This drama is a special kind of stupid. It took me all of two seconds to fall in love with it as soon as the story line began. I am also aware that I am late to watching this seeing as it ends today and here I am writing about the first two episodes. I feel a little ashamed about that since Heechul is my number one bias and he is in this drama. I knew that this drama was going to happen, but I didn't hear that it had started until episode seven and I'm not watching it until right now. Better late than never though, right?

First Impressions - Joseon Gunman
Look at that poster. It's beautiful. If that alone doesn't make you want to watch this, that fact that it stars Lee Min Ki should. I'm also a bit of a sucker for fusion saguks, especially ones that look like they will be extremely visually pleasing, which most of them are. I'm also excited for when Lee Joon Ki ditches his sword and his high born clothes for the outfit above. He is pretty awesome with a sword though.......and a fan, but that's in the past.

First Impressions - King of High School
I have been really bad about writing about dramas since I got to Korea. When I first got here I didn't have internet at my officetel for a while so that made life difficult and I think that because I am around Korean speakers all day, I want to come home and read and watch things in English. I also don't need to focus as much if I am watching things in English. I have been trying to be better about my dramas though and I want to write more about what I am watching, hence, first impressions.
